The Georgia Department of Transportation will close the northbound and southbound lanes of SR 11 between the cities of Hawkinsville and Abbeville beginning at 10 a.m. Monday June 18.

The road will remain closed for three weeks, reopening at 5 p.m. Friday July 6, weather permitting, the department said in a news release.

Department crews will begin "emergency repairs" to the bridge over Bluff Creek to replace 175 feet of concrete handrail that was damaged in an incident earlier this week.

The following information about detours comes from the GDOT news release:

Traffic will be detoured off of SR 11 in Wilcox County, onto SR 233 southwesterly to SR 112 and then north to Hawkinsville.

Truck traffic should remain on SR 30/US 280 in Abbeville toward Rochelle where you will then turn onto on SR 112 to head north toward Hawkinsville.

Local traffic only will be allowed to use SR 11 headed north out of Abbeville.

This detour will be signed and advance warning signs and barricades will be located at intersections prior to the closure.
