Oeiras, Portugal (Sports Network) - Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland beat David Ferrer of Spain in Sunday's final at the Portugal Open.

The second-seeded Wawrinka defeated Ferrer, the No. 1 seed, by a 6-1, 6-4 margin in just over one hour.

In their previous meeting, Ferrer took down Wawrinka in February's Buenos Aires final. Despite Sunday's defeat, the Spaniard holds a 7-4 lifetime mark against Wawrinka.

The 16th-ranked Swiss star captured his fourth career title and first since January 2011 in Chennai. Wawrinka holds a 4-7 mark in finals.

Ferrer fell to 20-18 all-time in finals, including 2-3 this year. In addition to the Buenos Aires title, he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber for the Auckland championship in January and lost to Rafael Nadal in Acapulco and Andy Murray in Miami.

Wawrinka took home $96,000 with the victory.
