Munich, Germany (Sports Network) - Former world No. 3 and two-time former champion Nikolay Davydenko was among Monday's first-round losers at the $535,000 BMW Open.

The aging Russian star Davydenko gave way to Croat Ivan Dodig 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at MTTC Iphitos.

Also on Day 1, German Daniel Brands overcame wild card and fellow countryman Tobias Kamke 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, Aussie Marinko Matosevic handled German wild card Kevin Krawietz 6-2, 6-4, and resurgent Russian Dmitry Tursunov doused oft- injured Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-3, 6-4.

The top seeds here are Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, Croat Marin Cilic and German favorites Tommy Haas and Phillip Kohlschreiber, who is the reigning champion. The two-time Munich titlist Kohlschreiber beat the two-time runner-up Cilic in last year's final.

This year's winner will claim $96,000.
