MACON, Ga.(School Release) - Mercer midfielders Will Betts and Ryan King were both named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-South Region teams on Monday morning.
Betts, who has a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a finance major, was named First Team All-Region while King, who sports a 3.58 GPA as an engineering major, garnered Second Team All-Region recognition.
The NSCAA All-Region selection is Betts' third major academic award he has received over the past two months. Betts finished his Mercer career with 77 games played and tied for the fifth-most games started in A-Sun Conference history, with 74. The Brenham, Texas native had 33 career points on 12 goals and nine assists, including a stellar 2012 campaign where he amassed 11 points on four goals and three assists.
As for King, the Norcross, Ga. product had a breakout junior season appearing and starting in all 20 games in 2012. King tallied 12 points on two goals and eight assists and was rewarded for his play by being named to the A-Sun All-Academic team and A-Sun All-Conference second team.
