MACON, Ga. (School Release)- Thanks to a scintillating 6-3-1 overall record thus far in its 2012 campaign, the Mercer men's soccer team was recognized for its success by appearing as the No. 7 team in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Regional Poll.
The regional ranking is the third-ever in Mercer program history, and is the Bears highest all-time ranking after appearing as the No. 10 team in the South Region in 2010 and 2011.
The Orange and Black are now 6-1-1 in their last eight matches and currently lead the A-Sun Conference in almost every major statistical category, including wins (6), goals (19), assists (22), goals against average (0.88) and shutouts (5).
The South Region is one of the toughest in the country, featuring three teams ranked in the top-25 nationally (#4 North Carolina, #16 Wake Forest and #22 Furman).
Mercer is back in action when it returns to Macon to continue its A-Sun Conference slate against Lipscomb on Thursday night. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.
