Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - SMU has signed head football coach June Jones
to a three-year contract extension through the 2017 season.
Jones was set to enter the final season of a two-year extension he signed in
2010. He has guided the Mustangs to a record of 36-41 in six seasons at the

There is no place I'd rather be than here at SMU," said Jones in a statement
Monday. "I am proud of the progress we have made thus far, but many goals
remain unfinished, including restoring SMU football's championship tradition."
SMU went 1-11 in Jones' first season of 2008, then reached four straight bowl
games before this season's squad finished 5-7.
"Coach Jones and his staff have successfully engineered our football program's
journey from relative obscurity to competitive relevance," said SMU athletic
director Rick Hart. "Under their direction, we have participated in a
conference championship game and a school-record four consecutive bowl games.
We look forward to partnering with coach Jones as we now set our sights on the
next phase of our rise to prominence: establishing SMU football as a
SMU last reached a bowl game in 1984 before Jones' arrival.
