The Billy Curry era at Georgia State is over following a disappointing 1-10 season in 2012, and the Trent Miles era is underway. The new coach will guide the Panthers into the Sun Belt Conference as GSU jumps to Division I.

Miles was hired in the off-season after coaching at Indiana State. He takes over a GSU program that is 10-23 over its first three seasons.

According to the new coach, every starting spot is up for grabs, even for incoming freshmen.

Two Northside graduates will be among the Panther rookies.

Robert Davis Jr. is in the mix at wide receiver, and Trey Payne will be competing for playing time at linebacker.

"They are...the right type of person for us, off the field as well as on. They are leaders and tough guys that love the game of football," Miles said of the former Eagles.

The Panthers will be looking to avoid a letdown like last season, when they started 0-6.

Game one is Friday, August 30 when Samford comes to the Georgia Dome.
