The Mercer football and lacrosse stadium is entering the final stages before completion, and according to Athletic Director, Jim Cole, everything is on schedule.
It you take a look now, the facility has come a long way since the November 2011 groundbreaking.
Today, the stadium playing surface, as well as the Homer and Ruth Drake Field House, are complete and so are most of the original 4,000 member seating.
Due to heavy requests of season tickets, Mercer added 6,000 more seats to bring the capacity to 10,000. Those areas will continue to be added over the spring and summer months just in time for kickoff.
Athletic Director, Jim Cole explains, "We're getting close to the end. When I say that, there is still a lot to do. It's been a long process and its exciting. We've been through the rain and with construction its kind of like building a house, it comes out quick and then it kind of slows down. But now the brick is coming on. The super structure is coming in for the second level of stands. It's getting very close. It's starting to take shape and we're getting very excited."
The Bears open the season August 31 against Reinhardt College.
Currently the Bears Lacrosse team also calls the stadium home.
