The Georgia Southern Eagles are on to the second round of the FCS football playoffs after a 24-16 victory over Central Arkansas last Saturday.
This weekend, the Eagles are on the road versus a familiar opponent in Old Dominion. Coach Jeff Monken and his squad bested the Monarchs in a shootout 55-48 in last years opening round. This year however the Eagles still expect a challenge but are hoping for the same end results.
Kickoff for Southern and Old Dominion is at 12oclock noon at Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Virginia.
And in other Statesboro news, the Eagles also added a new addition to the friendly confines of Paulson Stadium. A life size statue of the late great Erk Russell. Coach Russell guided the Eagles to 4 National Titles after restoring the football program in 1982. Russell also held the job of Defensive Coordinator during the Junkyard dog years at Georgia, when the Dawgs last won a championship in 1980.
