ATHENS--The Georgia football team began preparations for its regular season finale with a 60-minute workout in shorts and helmets on the Woodruff Practice Fields on Monday.

The third-ranked Bulldogs (10-1) will play host to in-state rival Georgia Tech (6-5) Saturday at 12:00 p.m. on ESPN.

"I thought today was great," said Georgia head coach Mark Richt. "We went in shorts tonight and we'll go in pads for the rest of the week. It was a good start to the week."

The Bulldogs will try on Saturday to become the ninth team in school history to win at least 11 games. The 2007 squad was the last to do it while the 2002 Bulldogs were the last to reach that mark in the regular season.

Georgia will be facing the triple-option offense for the second straight week. Last week, the Bulldogs limited Georgia Southern to 14 points on 318 total yards on offense. The Eagles had 58 rushes and went 1-for-4 through the air. In 2011 against Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets ran 70 plays and gained 355 yards, including 243 on the ground on 53 attempts.

Richt said the captains for Saturday's game will be Tavarres King, Shawn Williams, Sanders Commings and Ty Frix.

Also Monday, it was announced that linebacker Jarvis Jones is a finalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given to the nation's most outstanding defensive player. Jones current NCAA active leader in sacks pergame (1.0) with 24 in two seasons and is tied for the lead in tackles for loss (1.6) with 37.5 through this season and last. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6
