High Point, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Javonte Green scored 23 points and pulled
down seven rebounds as the Radford Highlanders captured an 81-72 win against
the Panthers of High Point in a Big South Conference showdown at the Millis
Also scoring in double figures for the Highlanders (12-5, 2-0 Big South) were
R.J. Price with 14 points, Rashun Davis 13 and Ya Ya Anderson 11 points as the
team won for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
The Panthers (4-11, 0-2) were led by John Brown and Adam Weary who both
delivered 21 points, while Devante Wallace accounted for 12 and Dejuan
McGaughy 10 points and four assists in the team's second straight setback and
the ninth in the last 10 contests overall.
Dominating on the interior over the first 20 minutes of action, the
Highlanders scored 28 of their 43-first half points in the paint, connecting
on 60.0 percent of their field goals as they carried a 17-point advantage into
the break. In addition to shooting only 38.1 percent from the floor in the
frame, High Point also turned the ball over eight times.
The visitors appeared to have a comfortable lead for much of the second half,
but in the final minutes the Panthers were able to cut the deficit to a mere
five points at 75-70. The Highlanders then closed out with a 6-2 burst to
secure the double-digit win.
Radford shot only 2-of-11 behind the 3-point line on the night, but more than
made up for it with a 27-18 edge at the free-throw line while suffering only
