Moraga, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jared Brownridge finished with 23 points and
drilled the game-winning 3-pointer in the waning seconds to lift the Santa
Clara Broncos to a thrilling 57-55 victory over the Saint Mary's Gaels in a
West Coast Conference bout at McKeon Pavilion.
Brownridge shot 10-of-16 from the field, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range
for Santa Clara (9-8, 2-2 WCC), which has won back-to-back games. Brandon
Clark was also stellar with 20 points on 8-of-14 from the field.
Brad Waldow put up 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks for Saint Mary's
(12-4, 2-1) in its first loss at home this season in nine tries. Beau Levesque
and James Walker III netted 12 points apiece in the losing effort.
Saint Mary's shot a modest 41.4 percent from the field in the first half but
managed to hold Santa Clara to just 33.3 percent shooting, as it carried a
29-20 lead into intermission.
The Broncos climbed back in the game by opening the second half on a 24-11 run
to take a four-point lead with 11:05 remaining. The Gaels regained the
advantage, 55-54, with just 23 seconds left on a Stephen Holt 3-pointer, but
Santa Clara answered in dramatic fashion when Brownridge drained his 3-pointer
with just two seconds remaining.
Santa Clara shot 8-of-12 from 3-point range, while Saint Mary's was only 4-
of-16 from beyond the arc.
