VanDerveer gets long-term deal with Stanford

Stanford, CA (Sports Network) - Stanford University has announced a long-term agreement with Hall of Fame women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer.

The school made the announcement via Twitter, but didn't disclose any other details.

The 60-year-old VanDerveer, who was enshrined into the Hall of Fame in 2011, has won a pair of NCAA championships with the Cardinal in 1990 and 1992.

She's been the coach at Stanford since the 1985-86 season and has reached ten Final Fours. Her run of five straight Final Four appearances was stopped this past season when Stanford was upset by Georgia in the Sweet 16..

VanDerveer's record is an astonishing 742-152 during her time at Stanford. Overall, she is 894-203, having started her head coaching career at Idaho (1978-80) and then going to Ohio State (1980-85).

She stepped away from the Stanford program in 1995-96 to lead the U.S. national team at the 1996 Olympics.
