Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Morris Woods posted a double-double with 15
points and 11 rebounds, as the Eastern Illinois Panthers took down the
Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks, 69-56, in an Ohio Valley Conference bout at Lantz
For the Panthers (5-16, 2-6 OVC), Sherman Blanford also scored 15 points,
Malcolm Herron scored 13 points, and Josh Piper chipped in with 10 points.
Myles Taylor led all scorers with 21 points for the Skyhawks (4-16, 1-7),
while Terence Smith finished with 13 point and seven assists.
Both squads shot very well to open the contest, shooting an identical 52.2
percent from the field in the first half. UT Martin connected on 7-of-11 from
beyond the 3-point arc and they took a 32-27 lead into halftime. EIU made
just 3-of-11 shots from 3-point range in the half.
After the break, the Panthers again hit on 52.2 percent of their field goal
tries, including 4-of-8 from 3-point distance. The Skyhawks struggled from
the floor in the second half, making just 30 percent of their field goal
attempts and missing all but one of their seven 3-point tries. Trailing by
eight, 38-30, early in the second half, the Panthers used a 21-5 run to take
the lead and secure their second consecutive victory.
EIU had a 37-26 rebounding advantage. The Panthers outscored the Skyhawks,
19-5, on points off of turnovers.
