MACON -- Cavalier Fields haven't been empty for the last month.  Mount de Sales hit the weight room and the practice field hard in hopes of bettering a 2-9 record in 2012.

Head coach Robert Slocum says the biggest concern heading into 2013 is the offense.

"We graduated everybody on the offensive line," explained Slocum.  "We're starting five new guys, so we're having to get those guys ready to play a football game has been a bit of a challenge, but we're trying to break things down and hopefully we'll get there."

The Cavaliers are still mixing and matching when it comes to the front five. As for this year's signal caller, Reed Ely is there guy. Ely started at safety last season and played back up quarterback.

"You can come out and play defense and be aggressive," said Ely. "What you learn being a starting quarterback is that you're really the mental leader and the vocal guy out here.  It's a completely mental, vocal change between the guys.  Your relationship has to be different, so it's a lot less aggressive.  Instead of getting the guys pumped up, I guess you're trying to calm them down when they need to be."

Mount de Sales opens the season Friday at 7:30 against Bethesda Day at Cavalier Fields.
