Mercer Athletics Director Jim Cole made the announcement Monday as the Bears are currently preparing to take the field August 31st.
"We are excited to play a great institution like Georgia Tech," Cole said. "The Yellow Jackets have a rich history of excellence in academics and athletics and we are thrilled to renew a football tradition that dates back over 100 years."
Mercer and Ga. Tech have a rich history and according to both school's websites, the Yellow Jackets played their first football game ever against Mercer on November 5, 1892. Tech lost that game 12-6.
"It will be a big day for us in 2016 to travel to Georgia Tech and test our team against one of the premier programs in the ACC," said Mercer's head coach Bobby Lamb.
The Bears return to the field for the first time in 72 years Saturday, August 31st, welcoming Reinhardt University to Macon. Kickoff is at 6 P.M. at Mercer University Stadium.
