HOUSTON COUNTY - The Houston County Bears are under new management.
Former West Laurens Defensive Coordinator Von Lassiter takes over the black and silver as they get ready for another season in 5A ball.
Lassiter says he hopes to bring an up tempo mentality to both the offense and defense, so the practices will be more intense than they have been in the past. 24 seniors will try to lead the Bears to a winning season which they haven't accomplished since 2010 and a possible playoff run for the first time since 2006.
"It's all about the playoffs you know", says senior QB Taylor Boyett." We gotta make it. We haven't made it in like 7-8 years almost. We want to be the first group to make noise and have everybody rally around us and we'll see where it goes from there."
Lassiter is excited about his newest assignment, "The best kids, the best everything you've ever wanted as a coach. We're excited to be here and we can't wait to get on the field in a couple of weeks. We've been very, very encouraged by the way the kids have responded in the past couple of weeks and I'm very blessed to be a part of HoCo football."
The Bears scrimmage Perry next week and open up the season with Harris County on Thursday, August 290th at McConnell Talbert Stadium.
