MACON - The pieces are finally coming together for the Mercer football team. The Bears are less than 24 days away from their first game against Reinhardt.
After over a year of practicing and scrimmaging against each other, the players say they're ready to hit someone on a different team for a change.
When that August 31st date finally arrives, the team won't be the only new thing on game day. They plan on starting some new traditions too.

Head Coach, Bobby Lamb explains, "One of the great things about starting this program is you're able to come up with different traditions I know it hasn't been announced yet, but we're going to do a Bear Walk which will be kind of neat across our campus.  Because of the proximity of Mercer and you can just about walk everywhere, I think that will be a big hit with our fans and our players.  Everybody has seen the bell there.  We'll run through the bell as we come out onto the field.  So there's some things already in place and other things we're working on.  We want to make it a festive atmosphere."

Bears open up August 31 at home against Reinhardt. Kickoff is set for six o'clock.
