The Macon Steel welcomed Central Georgia to the Arena Indoor Football era with a franchise season opener against the Carolina Force.
The Steel first got on the board with a saftey courtesy of former Dodge County standout Cedric Lewis. After the early two point lead, Macon allowed 24 unanswered points before wideout/defensive back Terry McGee (Peach County) returned a kickoff from endzone to endzone to make the score 24-9 at halftime.
Fast forward to the fourth quarter, under 2 minutes left Macon trailing Carolina 37-31, and Steel quarterback Marcus Brooks (Southwest Patriots) connects with Kent Schoolfield Jr (Fort Valley State) who refuses to go down, weaves in and out of traffic with what would be the go ahead score with the extra point 38-37.
Under a minute left in the game Force quarterback Shayne Miligan goes deep to 6'5 Julius Gregory for the game winning score. Carolina spoils the debut of the Macon Steel 44-38.
