Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kevin Marsh won a pair of matches on
Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Marsh, who won this event in 2005, took down defending champion Nathan Smith,
2 & 1, in the round of 32 before outlasting Keith Unikel, 1-up, in the round
of 16. Marsh earned a quarterfinal showdown with Ken Tanigawa, a 1-up winner
over Scott Harvey in the round of 32 and a 4 & 3 victor over Keith
Humerickhouse in the round of 16.
Two-time U.S. Mid-Amateur semifinalist Michael McCoy also advanced on Tuesday,
taking down Scott Rowe, 4 & 2, in the earlier matches before defeating Zach
Atkinson, 2 & 1, in the round of 16. McCoy's quarterfinal opponent will be
Bradley Bastion, who ousted Dan Sullivan, 1-up, in the round of 16 after
taking his first lead of the match on the 15th hole.
Bill Williamson posted a comfortable, 5 & 4 victory over Joseph Saladino in
the round of 16 to earn a quarterfinal date with Matt Schneider, who needed 19
holes to dispatch Craig Smith, 1-up, at the Country Club of Birmingham.
Ken McCready led throughout in a 1-up win over Brad Valois, which earned him a
quarterfinal matchup again Todd Mitchell, who was a 3 & 2 victor over

semifinals later in the day. The championship match will take place on
