Stone was one of four players to advance to the match-play portion of the championship on Wednesday. The playoff for the last few spots started as a 13- for-11 extra session on Tuesday that ended as a 5-for-4 playoff on Wednesday morning.

Stone gained one of those spots then took down stroke-play medalist Garrett Rank, the 2012 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up, in 19 holes.
