ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Hutson Mason says he hopes Georgia starting quarterback Aaron Murray has to attend more banquets this spring.

With Murray away, Mason had his long-awaited chance to run the first-team offense in Georgia's first scrimmage of the spring on Tuesday at Sanford Stadium.

Mason, a junior who redshirted in 2012 so he wouldn't be in the same class as Murray, completed 14 of 23 passes for 186 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Murray, the three-year starter, had an excused absence to receive the "Peach of an Athlete" role model award in Atlanta.

Mason, expected to be Murray's top backup, says it was important to have extended time with the starters.

Keith Marshall was the leading rusher with 11 carries for 71 yards.
