ATHENS, Ga. --- On Saturday, No. 3 Georgia will face No. 2 Alabama in the SEC Championship with guaranteed dry conditions and temperatures in the 70s inside the Georgia Dome. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs worked out in a spitting, rainy mist with temperatures in the low-50s in Athens.
"We got the work done we needed to get done," head coach Mark Richt said. "I really liked the effort and I really liked the attitude, but I didn't like the conditions because I know they're going to be different when we play on Saturday. It is what it is, though. We made the best of it."
The Bulldogs (11-1, 7-1 SEC) practiced in full pads for just over two hours, their most physical day or preparation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Richt and selected players took part in the Bulldogs' game week press conference at the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall and discussed facing Alabama (11-1, 7-1 SEC) at length.
"They're just a very complete football team, a very solid football team, a team that rarely loses," Richt said. "We know we have our work cut out for us. Our guys are excited about the opportunity to compete with them, and we're working hard as a staff, getting our plan together. Yesterday was the only practice we had so far, but they came out with good energy and Coach (Joe) Tereshinski said they got in a good lift, so today will be a big day to put the pads on and do the physical part of the preparation we have to get done."
Linebacker Christian Robinson talked about the Bulldogs' improved performances over the past month. The surge began when Georgia defeated No. 3 Florida, 17-9, in Jacksonville on Oct. 27 and continued as the Bulldogs outscored their final four opponents by a combined 162-34.
"It's kind of a tale of two seasons," Robinson said. "The first half of the season we didn't really live up to anybody's expectations on defense, and now we're winning the way people thought we should have been winning all along. Now we have a chance to really do something special, something that hasn't been done here in a long, long time so now we have to see it all the way out."
There were two changes Monday's injury report. Cornerback Damian Swann and wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell were in green jerseys and limited to no contact in practice. Swann is nursing a cervical strain, and Mitchell has a left shoulder contusion.
Kick off for Saturday's game has been set for 4:10 p.m. ET, and the contest will be televised nationally on CBS. The Bulldogs are 3-0 on CBS this season, defeating Tennessee, Florida and Ole Miss.
