MACON, Ga. - The Mercer men's soccer team couldn't find its rhythm offensively and eventually dropped a 2-0 decision to East Tennessee State on Sunday afternoon at Bear Field.
ETSU (4-3-3, 2-0-0 A-Sun) out-shot Mercer (3-8-0, 1-1-0 A-Sun) 15-4 and limited the Bears to just one shot on goal in the contest.
Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year David Geno got the scoring started for the Buccaneers in the 17th minute of play when he rifled a mid-air volley into goal to give the visitors a 1-0 edge.
ETSU put the game out of reach in the 76th minute when sophomore Emmanuel Wilson knocked a diving header past Bears goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh to make the final score 2-0.
Ranjitsingh made six saves in the contest, his fifth game this season with five or more saves.
Mercer returns to action on October 10 when it steps out of A-Sun play to welcome inaugural Division I member Incarnate Word into town. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bear Field.
