The Wrambling Wreck ended last years season in under achieving fashion with a 7-7 record but are hopeful as they begin this upcoming season with a new quarterback under center.
Head coach, Paul Johnson adds, "Well, you know we lost Tevin Washington, who was our quarterback. And we lose one of the wide receivers Orwin Smith. But other than that pretty much everybody returns offensively."
Returning an offense that rushed for more than 335 yards a game, which was 2nd best in the nation. And with new incoming signal caller, Vad Lee, Tech hopes to keep breaking offensive records.
"Getting somebody else in there, you know, kind of just brings a different dynamic to us", says offensive lineman, Ray Beno. "You know, obviously with each guy there's something different they bring to the table. Vad, he brings a lot more leadership, a lot more energy to the group."
A more troubling spot for the Jackets has been the defense. Over head coach Paul Johnson's tenure he's had three Defensive Coordinators come and go but may have his man in former Tech alum.
"I think Coach (Ted) Roof brings a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of energy", says Johnson. "It's a scheme the players seem to enjoy paying in, and hopefully we can transition that on the field to better performance."
In the ACC, Tech ranked 5th in total defense while coming in last against the pass in 2012. But this year the Jackets envision a different outcome near the top of the standings.
Defensive tackle, Euclid Cummings agrees, "We have leadership... like we have a senior at every position, whether it's D-line, linebackers, secondary... so I feel like that will help us. And we have younger guys who are ready to step up in roles. So I feel like as long as the younger guys pay attention to the older guys, then things will be great."
This weekend, if you're a follower of Georgia Tech football you're in luck. Tech has a Football Fan Day at Bobby Dodd Stadium Saturday August 3rd, beginning at 3 o'clock.
The Jackets kickoff to open the season against Elon College at home, August 31st in a night game.
