MACON, GA - The 2013 NCAA baseball season is officially over, and the Mercer Bears finished among the nation's best in several statistical categories.
Mercer's defense was tops among the 296 Division I teams. The Bears finished with a .982 fielding percentage, beating out Nebraska, UC Irvine, and Oregon by one-tenth of a percent for number one.
Mercer's fielding percentage is both a program and Atlantic Sun record.
The Orange and Black also finished sixth in the country with 309 walks and 446 runs. They came in seventh with 56 home runs.
The Bears also had several players near the top of individual leaderboards.
Chesny Young, a sophomore third baseman, fell just short of the top spot nationally in hits with 105, and his .401 batting average was good for sixth best.
Coming in seventh in the nation for runs scored was junior Sasha LaGarde with 68, and ninth in the country in RBI was Nick Blacklund with 68.
