The Mercer Bears baseball team received their marching orders Monday and Wednesday afternoon they set off for Starkville, Mississippi to begin the journey to the College World Series.
The boys of summer loaded the bus in the University Center parking lot, preparing for the 6 hour road trip.
The nationally no. 27 ranked Bears were given an at large bid Monday, to compete in the NCAA Championship Regionals as a number three seed and look forward to the opportunity to show what they can do on a national stage.
"We're in, we're one of the top 64. We want to be the last man standing", says Mercer Coach Craig Gibson. "In 2010 we made it to the top 32, so this year we want to make it farther. Its baseball, right now anybody can beat anybody. That's why Kent State and Stony Brook went to Omaha last year and we're hoping we can follow in their footsteps. I'm sure many people haven't heard much of Mercer but hopefully Friday afternoon we can go a bit further."
First game for the Bears is Friday at 3pm against South Alabama.
