MACON, Ga. - After going 4-1 on the week, the Mercer baseball team did just enough to hold onto its No. 1 ranking in the most recent College Baseball Daily Top-25 Mid-Major Poll released on Monday morning.
Mercer (36-12, 15-6 A-Sun) started the week by splitting a two-game mid-week series at Florida A&M before traveling to Spartanburg and sweeping a three-game series from USC Upstate this past weekend.
The Orange and Black started the season ranked 25th in the poll and has been steadily moving up all season long leading up to its No. 1 ranking last week. Mercer retained its No. 1 spot in the poll this week by once again beating out Big East power Louisville and Big 10 member Indiana who rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the rankings, respectively.
The Bears are one of three Atlantic Sun Conference teams in the CBD Mid-Major poll, joining No. 18 Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida who is currently in the receiving votes section.
Mercer's 36 wins in 2013 is tied for the sixth-most in the nation, and are the most of any mid-major squad, while its No. 21 RPI according to BoydsWorld.com is the second-highest in the country amongst mid-majors, trailing only South Alabama ( No. 14).
Mercer will now enjoy an eight-day break as it returns to campus for finals all next week. The Bears return to the diamond when it welcomes Belmont to Macon for a two-game mid-week series starting on May 7.
