MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College soccer squad (5-6, 2-4 PBC) welcomed the newest school to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Wednesday, dropping Young Harris College (5-4, 1-4 PBC) 1-0 at Bobcat Field.
Sophomore Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) continues to have a hot foot, as the forward netted the lone strike of the night. With 7:48 left on the first-half clock, sophomore Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) found Veilleux with a nice lead down the left side, and the latter knocked it in for the 1-0 lead.
The goal was Veilleux's sixth of the year, already eclipsing her total from last season. Dalton recorded her team-best fourth assist on the year.
GC got a few great chances before the halftime horn, cracking off three solid shots in the waning minutes.
The second half was a much tighter contest, particularly down the stretch, as GC out-shot YHC by a slim 9-7 margin in the second stanza.
Sophomore Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.) recorded her second shutout of the season, making all six stops in the win. Mountain Lion goalkeeper Taylor Erickson made six saves in the loss.
The goal gives Veilleux 11 in her two-year career, good for sixth place in GC history, just one behind Meredith Moran (2004-05). Dalton has now recorded seven career assists, jumping into the top-10 in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m., hosting UNC Pembroke.
