Toccoa, GA - Behind the leadership of goalkeeper Abby Stephens, who recorded 20 saves, the Wesleyan College soccer team made giant strides defensively but were unable to overcome a potent Toccoa Falls offense in a 1-0 loss on Wednesday night.

The Eagles managed 22 shots for the game while holding Wesleyan to only one. The lone goal scored by Toccoa Falls came with 0:20 remaining in the first half off the foot of freshman Lizz Rice.

"Our team played really well defensively tonight and I'm tremendously proud of their effort on the field," stated head coach Ciaran Traquair. "Abby [Stephens] played extremely well in the goal, Jessica [Suarez] was unbelieveable as our central defender, and all in all, the whole team stepped up and improved across the board. Of course we would have loved to have gotten the win, but I'm really proud of the way our ladies fought for the whole 90 minutes tonight."

Wesleyan returns to the Mathews Athletic Complex on Friday evening to take on Great South Athletic Conference rival Agnes Scott College at 7:00pm.
