ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta's police department has reached what the mayor calls a historic milestone.
The city said in a statement that the police force has filled all 2,000 sworn officer positions.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Police Chief George Turner are among city officials planning to discuss the significance of having 2,000 officers during a Friday news conference. The event is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the Atlanta Police Training Academy, where the 2,000th officer hired will be introduced.
