BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) - A defense expert says he believes there must have been more than one killer in the beating deaths of eight people found slain inside a Georgia mobile home.
Dr. Jonathan Arden, a forensic pathologist who does private consulting, testified Tuesday at the trial of 26-year-old Guy Heinze Jr. in Brunswick. Heinze faces the death penalty if he's convicted of murder in the August 2009 slayings of his father and seven extended family members.
Arden says it's "inconsistent" with any crime he's ever seen to believe Heinze alone could have slain so many people without them being tied up or held at gunpoint.
Prosecutors have told jurors they don't have to decide whether Heinze acted alone. But police have said for years they believe he killed all eight victims single-handedly.
