The Mercer Bear football team is on the West Coast to face the University of San Diego Saturday afternoon.
The Bears are a perfect 4-0, but this is their first road test.
The guys practiced this week and headed out Thursday for the trip.
The Toreros come in 2-2 but they were picked to win the division and they're also the two-time defending Pioneer Football League champs.
The Bears have kept opponents in check defensively and haven't had too much trouble moving the ball.
But head coach Bobby Lamb says traveling so far with young guys will test the team in ways on and off the field.
"We've got to learn how to handle the trip first this is our first ever road trip and we're going all the way to San Diego but that's okay we're looking forward to it, Lamb said. It's kind of crazy to say this but we've got to see what the maturity is on the trip, we're traveling with a bunch of freshmen so we've got to handle the distractions and handle playing the football game."
The Bears next game is Oct. 12 against Marist.
Right now Mercer is the only NCAA Division One football program in the state of Georgia with an unbeaten record.
