This Labor Day, instead of sleeping in, some people decided to wake up early and run. Thousands of runners took to the road for the Macon Labor Day Road Race.
The 10K started on Forsyth Road and the course went through downtown Macon with the finish line at Central City Park.
For some runners, the course made the journey worth it.
"I love the old houses that we passed that was my favorite thing about Forsyth as it turns into Vineville is the beautiful house that was kind of nice cause it passed the time," said Becky Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Brandon Ellen of Macon says his birthday is always around Labor Day, and he loves to celebrate another year older by hitting the pavement.
"I did it a couple of years ago for my 40th birthday," said Ellen. "I like to do it for my birthday weekend, so it's like a celebration for myself."
Other runners said there is nothing more invigorating than starting a holiday with a run.
"In the past my Labor day was all about BBQ, which BBQ is still great might even have some later on today who knows, but you know this is just a great way to start it off and I am pumped and full of energy," said Asha Ellen of Macon
There was also a fun run for children and all of the kids received a finisher's medal.
