PUTNEY, Vt. - Vermont State Police say troopers found a naked burglar sitting on a bathroom sink when they responded to a burglary-in-progress complaint in Putney early Sunday.
Marshall T. Dean, 52, of Putney is expected to be arraigned Monday in Vermont Superior Court on felony charges of burglary and unlawful mischief, state police said.
Sgt. Jeffrey Trudeau said responding troopers found evidence of forced entry to a glass door leading inside a residence on Fred Houghton Road at about 12:05 a.m. Sunday.
He said troopers entered the residence while announcing their presence. As they were finishing their search of the home, they located a nude man attempting to avoid discovery, Trudeau said.
The nude man was seated on top of a bathroom sink and was bleeding from numerous cuts all over his body, police said.
Rescue Inc. and Putney Fire Department were summoned and Dean was transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. He was later released to state police, who lodged him at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield for lack of $10,000 bail.
The estimated damage to the residence exceeded $1,000, Trudeau said.
