SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) - Police in a Northern California city believe a 93-year-old woman mistakenly put her car in reverse before she barreled backward down a sidewalk, narrowly missing two people training a guide dog for the blind.
Surveillance camera footage shows one of the trainers pushing the other away on Monday in downtown San Rafael just as the car plows by them, crosses an intersection and then crashes.
San Rafael police say the woman does not appear to have been intoxicated, on drugs or to have suffered a medical emergency. They believe she meant to put the car in drive.
The Marin Independent Journal reports that neither she nor her passenger was injured. The dog was also unharmed.
