DENVER (KUSA) - A Heritage High School senior plans to live in a plexi-glass box on the 16th Street Mall for one week, in order to raise awareness and food for homeless Colorado kids.

Derek McKee is passionate about raising awareness for Colorado's homeless youth. There are more than 1,500 youth living on the streets in Denver.

The 8-foot-by-8-foot plexi-glass and plywood house he will live in will be placed on the 16th Street Mall near Glenarm Place on Wednesday. He will only leave it to use the restroom. Derek will eat two meals per day and will be collecting non-perishable food items to fill up the walls of his plexi-glass house.

The food will be donated to Food Bank of the Rockies and distributed to hunger relief agencies in the Denver area. Learn more about Food Bank of the Rockies here, http://www.foodbankrockies.org/.
