A Bibb County Superior Court jury convicted 31-year-old Aurie Bonner III of murder Wednesday in last year's killing of 87-year-old Christine Patton Cook.

District Attorney David Cooke says Bonner was sentenced to life without parole after the jury handed own its verdict. Superior Court Judge Howard Simms presided over the case.

Bonner was convicted of killing Cook on October 18, 2012 in her home on General Lee Drive. According to an autopsy, Cook was smothered.

The jury began deliberations after lunch and reached its verdict a short while later.

On Oct. 25, 2012, Bonner had to be carried into court by six officers for his first appearance after resisting entering the courtroom.
