Capt. Earl Humphries with the Jones County Sheriff's Office says investigators are searching for a white SUV as a "vehicle of interest" in Wednesday night's fatal hit-and-run.
The body of 28-year-old man Marquis DeShaun Lawson was found on the 300 block of Wheeler Road Thursday morning. That's off Highway 11, the Monticello Highway.
Humphries says they believe the SUV has a heavy brush guard or bumper and is possibly a Nissan Xterra.
He says that's in addition to the "vehicle of interest" named Thursday, which Humphries described as a "utility-style vehicle with a boom or bucket attached." He says it was seen in the neighborhood Wednesday.
According to Humphries, investigators believe the man was hit between 8 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. There were no witnesses.
The sheriff's office is not releasing any further information at this time.
