Macon-Bibb County firefighters can now get to parts of North Bibb County quicker.
The county used SPLOST dollars to build fire station 109 on New Forsyth Road, near the Shoppes at River Crossing.
Chief Marvin Riggins said that will improve response times in a growing region of the county.
"Our fire service protection in this corridor of Bibb County is going to be greatly enhanced," said Riggins. "We've assessed it, and we know that our response times to this area is not as great as they should be, and not where we'd like for them to be. This is going to cut that down tremendously, and we're excited about that."
Station 109 cost about $1.5 million.
It's one of three fire stations funded with county SPLOST money.
