STORY HIGHLIGHTS:

- A four-year-old was run over by a car at the Centerville Galleria Mall on Thursday.

- Centerville police say the car was driven by the boy's mother with two other women inside.

- The three women are accused of shoplifting and trying to escape mall security when the boy was run over.

A four-year-old boy is in critical condition at the Medical Center of Central Georgia after being run over by a car, driven by his mother.

That's according to Centerville chief of police Sidney Andrews.

It happened at the Galleria Mall in Centerville around 6 p.m.

Andrews says the child was with three women who were thought to be shoplifting inside the Belk store. They are identified as 25-year-old Arkevia Albury, the boy's mother; 23-year-old Rykena Albury; and 19-year-old Keoisha Duncan.

When store loss prevention tried to follow the women, Andrews says they ran outside and tried to leave in a car, running over the child in the process.

According to police, one of the women picked the child up, placed him in the car, and drove off.  Police caught up with them a mile away.

All three women were arrested.  Chief Andrews says charges will be filed, but he is unsure what those charges will be.

Georgia State Patrol is helping with the investigation.
