Tuesday at Barden Elementary School started with a moment of silence for Ta'Miya Watson.
She's the 5-year-old student who died Monday after she was run over the rear tire of a school bus.
School spokesman Donnie Porter says the school remembered Ta'Miya at the start of the school day. Several students asked to speak to counselors who are at the school today.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Ta'Miya died in surgery just after 7 p.m.
Macon Police Sergeant Melanie Hofmann says witnesses told investigators Watson ran off a curb just before 4 p.m. on Bloomfield Road.
Hofmann said the bus was making a left-hand turn from Bloomfield Road when Ta'Miya collided with the side of the bus. She fell to the ground and was run over as bus turned on to Virginia Drive.
A police news release says 57-year-old Elaine Clowers of Macon was driving the bus.
Ta'Miya was a kindergarten student at Agnes Barden Elementary School in Bibb County.
Barden Principal Jacqueline Jackson said, "Ta'Miya had such a promising future and we were blessed to have her at Barden. She will be so missed by her friends and our staff."
Family members and school district staff went with the girl to the hospital.
Acting Superintendent of Schools Susanne Griffin-Ziebart said, "Our deepest thoughts and prayers go out to this precious child and her family during this most difficult time."
The district's Crisis Support Team will be at the school this morning to assist students and staff.
The accident is under investigation by Macon Police.
