FRANKLIN COUNTY, GA--Information received during the investigation into the disappearance of a Cannon woman led Franklin County Sheriff's and GBI investigators to the discovery of a body in an abandoned well.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead says the body has been tentatively identified as Bonnie Cooner, 33, who disappeared on January 28. An excavation of the well is underway on Casey Road, in Cannon, to recover and transport the remains to the GBI Crime Lab.

An autopsy will be performed to determine both the identity and the cause of death.

Cooner was last seen by her boyfriend, Brent James Shubert, who was arrested early Sunday morning in South Carolina. Shubert is charged with murder and concealing a body. He remains in custody while awaiting extradition to Georgia.
