Sheriff David Davis has had his new badge for a little over a month.
Protocol in Bibb County requires all deputies and office employees to be sworn in whenever a new sheriff takes over.
Due to large numbers of deputies and sheriff's office staff, two ceremonies were held to swear in a force of nearly 400.
Sheriff Davis is not taking his duties lightly.
"The office of sheriff is even mentioned in the Bible," said Davis. "Sheriffs have a lot of responsibilities for the courts, for the running of the jail, as well as the protection of life and property in their communities."
Deputies and officers will be sworn in during a similar ceremony next year, when Bibb County consolidates with the Macon Police department.
