Macon-based political commentator Erick Erickson is reportedly  headed from CNN to Fox News.

On his own blog, Redstate.com, Erickson announced he was leaving CNN but did not mention joining Fox.

He wrote, "Yes, I can confirm I am leaving CNN. It was a very, very difficult decision." He said he was no longer under contract to CNN.

Several media and political blogs were reporting the move Tuesday, including Politico.com, which said they had confirmed the news with sources at CNN.

The news came on a day when CNN reportedly parted ways with several other high-profile contributors, including James Carville, Mary Matalin and William Bennett.

Erickson is a conservative activist and analyst whose many hats include TV contributor, radio talk-show host at Atlanta's WSB and editor-in-chief for a political blog, Redstate.com.

He also served on Macon City Council from 2008 to 2011, representing north Macon's Ward 5.

Late last year, Erickson criticized U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss for forsaking his pledge against raising taxes and said he was considering running against him. A few days later, after "prayerful consideration," Erickson wrote that he wouldn't run after all.
