The race for Bibb County District Attorney is heating up.
In a press conference Monday current Bibb DA, Greg Winters accused his opponent, David Cooke of calling voters and spreading lies about him.
"For months my opponent has called my friends, neighbors and colleagues in the community attempting to raise doubts about my competence and my qualifications for the job," says Winters.
Cooke says that's not true.
"The phone calls he's describing did not come from my campaign. We haven't done any kind of ad," Cooke says. "He's said I paid for some kind of ad phone call that ran for two weeks; we haven't done that."
13WMAZ asked Cooke where Winters came up with the allegation and he responded, "I don't know what he's talking about the only thing we did was a two-day poll that asked questions about both candidates."
Cooke was not able to provide the script for the phone poll he said his campaign paid for but claimed it was balanced and fair to both he and his opponent.
However, Winters described the calls as lies, saying, "Polls framing falsehoods as hypotheticals are one of the oldest tricks in the book."
