Bibb County Campus Police arrested a 15-year-old Rutland High School student for felony possession of drugs.

The arrest followed unannounced random drug and weapon searches of Rutland and Westside high schools, recently reinstated by Campus Police Chief Russell Bentley.

According to a news release, police used handheld metal detectors and visually inspected book bags, purses and other personal items.

In the news release, Bentley turned to parents for help: "We will hold offenders of any age accountable for their actions, so I strongly encourage parents to partner with us and take an active role in making sure that their children are not bringing prohibited or illegal items to our campuses."

Bentley said principals may also request a search of their school at any time.
