A Bonaire man was arrested Thursday afternoon after leading deputies on a chase into Monroe County. Investigators say Cody Montgomery, 28, is accused of trying to shoplift at the Lowe's hardware store on Zebulon Road.
According to a release from Lt. Sean Defoe, store loss prevention officers saw Montgomery stealing a paint sprayer and that he returned later. That's when he allegedly attempted to steal a weed eater and a drill.
According to investigators, the suspect dropped his items and began to run when he saw a sheriff's patrol vehicle pull up. He jumped into a green Honda Accord and drove off. Deputies went in pursuit and the chase ended in the 600 block of Highway 42 North. Georgia State Patrolmen used stop sticks to deflate the suspect's tires. The car went off the road and into a ditch.
Montgomery was taken into custody and charged with felony theft by shoplifting, bench warrant state court, driving with a suspended license, reckless driving, reckless driving, eluding, and he also holds from Houston County and the Georgia State Patrol. He is being held at the Bibb County Jail without bond.
Investigators say additional charges are pending further investigation.
