Stratford won its third straight GISA AAA State Softball championship Saturday, beating Westfield 7-5 and 6-3.
The Eaglettes are the 11th straight team from Central Georgia to win the state title. It is the second straight year the Region 2-AAA rivals met in the final series.
After taking the opener, Jeff Treadway's team came back from a 2-0 deficit, with a three-run fourth inning.
With the game tied at 3-3 after an Ellen Grier home run in the top of the fifth, Lucy Bobbitt hit a two-run single that gave Stratford the lead for good.
"This year we were the team to beat, or at least the the team that had won the last two with everybody back," Treadway said. "I think people were ready for us and we just overcame a lot to get it."
"We knew we had to play an almost perfect game, and we knew that it was gonna be tough," senior pitcher Sloan Sibley said. "But we pulled it out and we're so excited."
