AURORA, Colo. (KUSA) - July 20th, 2013 could've been a difficult day for Kirstin Davis and Eugene Han.

It could've been the day Han reflected on his friend carrying him out of Century 16. It could've been the day Davis remembered how she waited by Han's hospital bed side, for him to get better, after she was released from the hospital herself.

But this couple chose to spend the day differently. They got married.

It was an emotional ceremony, with even Village East Baptist Church senior pastor Robert McClendon tearing up right at the beginning.

"On behalf of the bride and groom, we are glad that you've joined us for this very special time of worship and celebration," McClendon said at the start of the ceremony. "This is a celebration, it's a celebration of your wedding. But for you guys, it's way bigger, because it's a celebration of really God joining together two of his children in the sacred institution of marriage."

"This is a happy day," Davis said. "We're trying to take it and make something positive out of it."

The couple's friends who went to the movies with them that night, were in the wedding party. One of them, Adan Avila, lost his right foot in the shooting. 9NEWS first talked to Avila last fall, when he was walking on crutches, today he is doing well.

Everyone was all smiles at the wedding.

McClendon tried to joke. But the message was very serious.

"He [God] chose both of you for a purpose one year ago today at 12:38 this morning or around that time God again saved you and your friends who are standing here with you today in what we call the Aurora theater shooting," McClendon said. "He wanted to see the union of a godly young man and a godly young woman to show the world what a godly marriage would look like."

"All I want to tell the world is that Jesus is the one and only true savior," Han said. "If you accept him, he can save you to spiritually, but that night he did save me physically."
